NEW TV AD: Reno Family Affected by Pre-Existing Conditions Explains How Dean Heller Broke His Promise to Protect Their Son’s Health Care

Briant Gibb: Heller “caved to President Trump and did what he was told”

Nevada Congresswoman Jacky Rosen’s campaign for U.S. Senate launched a new 30-second television ad today featuring a Reno family whose son, Dean, was born with a heart defect. He will have a pre-existing medical condition for the rest of his life. Dean’s parents, Theresa Bohannan and Briant Gibb, explain in the ad how Sen. Dean Heller broke his promise to them personally when he supported ending the current protections for pre-existing conditions.

Jacky Rosen highlighted this Reno family’s story during last week’s U.S. Senate debate when she directly asked their question of Heller: to tell the truth about why he broke his promise to Theresa and Briant and explain why he supports slashing these critical, life-saving protections. Theresa and Briant had the opportunity to meet Heller last year and tell him how essential pre-existing conditions protections are for their son’s health care. Not long after, Heller sold them out and supported repealing the Affordable Care Act and gutting current federal pre-existing conditions protections, putting their son’s health care at risk. No matter what Dean Heller says, the facts are clear that his Graham-Cassidy-Heller-Johnson repeal plan slashes coverage protections for pre-existing conditions.

“Dean Heller needs to stop lying and own up to the way he sold out Nevada parents like Theresa and Briant when he broke his promise and put their son’s health care at risk,” said Rosen for Nevada spokesperson Miranda van Dijk. “Dean Heller never explained to Theresa and Briant why he broke his promise to them and their son, so Jacky Rosen held him accountable for deceiving hardworking Nevadans and putting kids at risk. All Senator Heller could offer in response was more empty rhetoric and lies about his record. Our state deserves a senator whose word is actually worth something.”
