Henderson, Nev. – Today, the United States Supreme Court hears oral arguments in United States v. Texas, the lawsuit backed by House Republicans against President Obama’s executive actions on immigration. Jacky Rosen, Democratic candidate for Nevada’s open 3rd Congressional District, released the following statement on upholding the DAPA and expanded DACA programs:
“It’s troubling and unfortunate that House Republicans, including Congressman Heck, have endorsed this hateful lawsuit that threatens to deport DREAMers and their families. This partisan attack on hard-working immigrants echoes the offensive rhetoric about mass deportations and border walls that we’ve seen on the campaign trail from Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. Under DAPA and DACA, immigrant families don’t have to live in the shadows anymore because they’re finally able to pay taxes and contribute to our economy even more than they do already. I urge the Supreme Court to uphold President Obama’s deferred action initiatives so that we can grow Nevada’s economy and our immigrant families can stop living in fear of being ripped apart. And it’s well past time for House Republicans to stop perpetuating a broken immigration system and finally take action to pass commonsense, bipartisan immigration reform with a path to citizenship.”
If DAPA, DACA, and DACA Expansion were all implemented, Nevada’s GDP would increase by $2.5 billion, Nevada’s residents’ incomes would increase by $1.4 billion, and more than 3,000 jobs would be created over the next decade.
